Professor Joachim Milberg, chairman of BMW AG announced at the Geneva Motor Show that BMW will be releasing a small series of cars dubbed the 1-series. In addition, he also mentioned that the 6-series coupe will re-emerge within the next few years to complete the BMW automotive line-up.

The 1-series is slated to occupy a market sandwiched between the highly successful 3-series and BMW Mini. According to BMW, the 1-series is expected to retain the key BMW elements including excellent handling and quality plus rear-wheel drive. The 1-series is expected to be released by 2004.

In other news, the large coupe series, the 6-series will return after it disappeared in the car maker's line-up in 1990. Although no details are out at the moment, it is clear that it will slot well into the Mercedes-Benz CLK territory. An open-top version of the 6-series coupe was also announced at the Geneva Motor Show.
