If you've just made a downpayment on a new Lancer, well... too bad. Mitsubishi Motors Japan has just released the first photos of a facelifted model that is set to go to the Japanese and American markets by early 2004. Other world markets will surely follow in a few months time. From what we could tell by the photo, the 2004 model will sport the new Mitsubishi family look--something that's been seen in the new Colt and Outlander SUV. The front bumper has been rounded up too, giving the Lancer an overall impression reminiscent of a Toyota Echo. Underneath, it is still not yet known if the Lancer will soldier on with its current set of powerplants, or if new ones will be made available. Rest assured though that the upgrades will not be limited to the exterior shell only. Of course, rumors also circulate that the current Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII model (Evolution in the US), will be the last of its kind before the company shifts the WRC program to the new Colt. Personally, we find the 2004 model a tad risqué in terms of overall design and proportions. While the current one retains hints of sportiness, this one is a cross between an Echo and a Pontiac--something that's not too appealing, especially for the ASEAN market. motioncars.com will report on further developments on the 2004 model Lancer as we get more information. |
