BMW Philippines marked its first Motoring Media Cup by holding a competitive kart race at Speedzone in Cainta, Rizal.

Participants from different media organizations tried their hands at first-rate karts that featured powerful four-stroke engines, catalytic converters and a computerized remote control engine switch.

The media people were divided into four categories with the three fastest from each getting a well-designed trophy.

As expected, familiarization with the track played a big role, however there were a lucky few who managed to win in their respective classes even with little or no experience at the track.

Among the winners of this year's Motoring Media Cup were Vernon Sarne of REV Magazine, Ken Quintal of C! Magazine and Brian Afuang of the Philippine Star.

Of course, motioncars.com editors Ulysses Ang and Jason Ang failed to land in the top three places on any categories. However, as a consolation, both improved on personal best times in the circuit. Ulysses who began the day posting 1:18 laps ended up doing 1:15. On the other hand, Jason Ang's 1:19 improved to 1:14.

The staff of different publications from print, web and television posed for a shot or two before things started to go down and dirty. Speedzone in Cainta, Rizal was the host for the first ever BMW Motoring Media cup. The facilities were all first rate.
Lester Dizon of the Philippine Star slices through the twisting and highly technical track. It's his first time here.

Vernon Sarne takes the lead in his racing pack. On his tail is motioncars.com editor, Jason Ang.
