motioncars.com was on hand at Fort Bonifacio Global City in Taguig last Sunday, February 23 to partake in Ford's Power Run. The event was designed to test the 2003 Ford Ranger's prowess with series of challenges such as pulling logs, jet skis and even a short, but challenging off-road course. No less than Ford Group Philippines' president Henry Co and Vice-President for Sales and Marketing Dave Macasadia were present to throw the Ranger through the treacherous course (top and middle photos). Driving a raised white 2003 Ranger XLT, the two went through the course unscathed. They stayed throughout the day tending through the customers who lined-up for the event. Wanting to test the power of the new Ranger ourselves, we strapped into a stock Dark Blue Mica XLT to take on the challenge (bottom photo). We were genuinely surprised with the Ranger's capabilities. Even in stock form, it went through the off-road challenge course with only the slightest problems. There's little doubt that the 117 bhp and 280 Nm of torque from the 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine helped. More than 90 customers took part last Saturday, which was deemed a success for Ford. There were other fun and games. Freebies such as caps and shirts were on-hand for those who joined the free test drive program. The 2003 Ford Ranger will next visit the mountainous areas of Sagada for a weekend trek. |
