Despite the rather shockingly low price tag, the Aveo comes packed with features such as a JVC in in-dash CD player with 4-speaker system, keyless entry with alarm and immobilizer and 60/40 split-fold rear bench seats.

There are five colors to choose from and the Aveo will retail for P575,000 for the manual and P615,000 for the automatic.

Chevrolet Optra

No doubt the star of the show, the Optra is Chevy’s answer to the Corolla man.  With Pininfarina styling, the Optra is definitely a understated looker with Audi-like lines and European-inspired detailing.

Underneath, the Optra is actually the newly launched Daewoo Nubira, which has consistently closed the gap with the rest of its European rivals such as the Ford Focus.  The Optra features a very sporty cabin that’s definitely lifted out of Volkswagen’s design book.  It features a Blaupunkt 2-DIN stereo with a 5-disc in-dash CD changer, 6-speaker system and a glass-mounted antenna.  Other standard features include all power amenities including power folding side mirrors.

Powered by an E-TEC II 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-4 engine, the Optra is capable of 110 bhp at 5,800 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.  Like the Aveo, the Optra is available with 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic with gate-type shifter and adaptive shift control logic.  The power plant, like its smaller 1.5-liter brother found in the Aveo is certified Euro-III compliant.

The Optra rides on tried-and-tested MacPherson Struts upfront and independent Dual-Link struts at the back; unlike its competitors however, the Optra comes standard with 195 / 55 16s tires.

Priced at P715,000 for the automatic, the Chevy Optra can very well offer a very good alternative to the Corolla and the Lynx.
