Only a handful remained running and restored after fifty years.  This featured model has an original mileage of just over 91,200 km (57,000 miles).  A gradual and meticulous restoration effort was undertaken in a  span of 11 years and was just recently completed.  It is in a showroom condition is working perfectly, including its original Becker-Nurburg radio.  The car has been with the family for 20 years, and a mechanic looks after the car three times a week.

This Adenauer now lives as a wedding car and as a grand tourer for special occasions.  Its inline-6 started without a hitch and revved smoothly.  The owner attests that regular runs at highway speeds are not a problem.  Our short ride proved that the car is remarkably durable.  The ride is far stiffer than what a modern S-class will provide, and there is a squeak or two from the seats when going over humps, but the chassis still feels rigid and indestructible.  Most cars imply that they can stand the test of time but this is one car that already has, and still looks as elegant as ever.

The feature on the 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 Adenauer also appeared in the Premiere Issue of Avantgarde Magazine.

Red leather trims most of the Adenauer's interior surfaces.  It's wonderfully restored and a symbol of excellent craftsmanship.
