Volvo’s team-up with Danish audio manufacturer Dynaudio continues with the C30.  The C30 is available with a 10-speaker system complete with Dolby Pro Logic Surround capability.  On lesser models, a 130-watt, 4-speaker with sub-woofer system from Alpine is standard.

The Volvo C30 will also have a wide array of engine choices available.  The base engine is a 1.6-liter petrol with 100 horsepower.  Next up is a diesel-fed 1.6-liter engine with 109 horsepower.  The range-topping models will receive either a 180 horsepower inline-5 turbo-diesel or a 220 horsepower inline-5 petrol engine, both shared with the S40/V50.  At 4250 mm, the C30 is the smallest car in Volvo’s range (about 220 mm shorter than the S40).

The diminutive size does not hamper the C30’s safety as it comes standard with all the safety features one would expect from a Volvo.  For example, the BLIS (Blind Spot Information System)—a system that helps the driver identify another vehicle in the blind spot at the rear sides is available.  The front-end, has a stiff safety cell as it’s shared with the S40/V50.  The C30 also comes with the usual selection of airbags (6), seatbelts with pre-tensioners, and WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System).

As mentioned, the Volvo C30 will debut at the Paris Motor Show in September, and production will begin soon after.  Volvo expects to sell 65,000 C30s a year, with 75 percent of it in Europe.

Volvo's brand identity translates well with a solid, roomy and practical cabin. In the C30 though, more personalization options are available.
The Audi A3, BMW 1-Series and Mercedes-Benz B-Class should all be afraid.
