In the chassis department, the Evolution X is said to have gains in both torsional and flexural stiffness (40 and 60 percent respectively) over the Evolution IX MR. At the same time, the track has has widened and the wheelbase lengthened all in all to improve handling and stability as well as ride and comfort. With the battery relocated to the trunk and a much more compact engine results in a better front/rear weight distribution as well as lower center of gravity for the Evo X. Though the front MacPherson Strut and rear Multi-Link suspension are the same as the foregoing Evo cars, the Evo X has a revamped suspension layout highlighted with Bilstein single tube shock absorbers and Eibach coil springs. At each corner, the Evo X wears extra-wide 245/40 R 18 tires with 18-inch Enkei tires. If the Enkei alloys aren't your fancy, lightweight BBS alloys are available as a factory option. The brakes are all vented Brembos: 18 inches up front and 17 inches at the back. All this talk about performance will not do the Evo X any justice if it will not look fast, and thankfully, Mitsubishi made sure the Evo X looks fast. The exterior is sophisticated and aggressive with a low and wide squat stance and aerodynamically clean profile. Though the over-the-top gapping front bumper and oversized rear spoiler are Evolution trademarks, the Evo X also features a undercover to improve airflow underneath the car improving cooling and aerodynamic efficiency. The Evolution X's interior is dominated by the Recaro full bucket seats. The instrument panel features high-contrast illumination with vertically resting dials. There are silver accents everywhere also, giving a visual break from the otherwise monotone black color scheme. For the first time, the Evolution X will be offered with features such as adaptive front lighting. Together with the standard HID headlamps, it will give unparalleled nighttime driving safety. Rain-sensitive wipers and automatic on/off headlamps also make it to the standard feature list. Like the Outlander, the Evolution X is offered with an ear-splitting 650-watt Rockford Fosgate system. A new addition on the Evo X is a 30GB hard disc system that stores digital files which can be accessed via a 7-inch colored LCD screen. A keyless engine start/stop system is also availble as an option. In terms of safety, aside from S-AWC system, the Evo X features a total of 7 airbags including a driver's knee airbag first seen in the regular run Lancer sedan. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X will be available in Japan just before the start of the Tokyo Motor Show as a manual transmission model. The Twin Clutch SST model will be launched towards the end of November. Indicative prices for the Mitsubishi Evolution X are between Y 2,997,750 to Y 3,750,600 (~ US$30,000-38,000). |
